Welcome
Welcome to 2012, we are in for another great year at Hamilton West School. We are very proud of our school which was built in 1864 and is one of the oldest schools in New Zealand.
The original school site was where WINTEC is now located, we moved to our current site around 1940 after the school had been used as a hospital for American servicemen on route back to the United States.
The large wooden classroom block is believed to be the longest wooden structure in the Southern Hemisphere.
In 2014 the school will celebrate 150 years of operation. We are setting up a data base of people who may be interested in coming to a reunion and who might like to help organise the event. Please contact me if you wish to be added to the data base mark@hamwest.school.nz
The school is set in spacious, well established grounds with excellent facilities. The buildings are architecturally pleasing and have been recently painted.
Hamilton West is a full primary school and in 2012 the roll opened at 499 students and we expect it to grow to around 560.
The Board of Trustees and Principal are committed to providing low student teacher ratios.

Thanks to teachers for providing our Ham West Three Way interviews this week. I know there was a lot of purposeful discussion. Thanks to everyone for booking a time to talk about your child's progress at school and what their next learning steps are.
